Algarvio Diogo Marreiros becomes European vice champion of the Skating Marathon

Athlete from Lagos got four medals: two silver and two bronze

The Portuguese Diogo Marreiros, roller skater of the Roller Lagos CP and Bont Skates team, representing the national team of Portugal, was runner-up to the European Marathon 2019 champion, in the championship that ended today in Pamplona, ​​with the queen race being played in the streets from that Spanish city.

The race was very lively, with several escape attempts, with Diogo controlling his position and joining the most promising escapes.

Finally, one of them materialized, integrating the German Rijhnen, world champion in 2018 and world bronze this year, as well as Diogo Marreiros and three other skaters. They were later joined by others and ended up being ten and a half those who went ahead until the last lap of 13, of more than three kilometers each.

Patxi Peula, the Spaniard from Vitória, European champion of the 10 km by points, with a deep knowledge of the “calles” of Pamplona, ​​attacked at about 300 meters from the goal, followed by the Portuguese and the German.

Diogo passed the Spaniard, but the German came from behind and surprised them both, taking the title of European Champion.

This was the second silver medal of the Lacobrigense athlete, after the one achieved in the 10 km Points/Eliminate track, and the fourth in this championship, in six individual competitions.
