Diogo Marreiros secures a new bronze medal at the European Skating Championships

This was the third medal of the athlete from Lagos in the competition.

The Algarve athlete Diogo Marreiros won this Saturday, August 31st, another medal at the European Speed Skating Championships, which are taking place in Pamplona (Spain), in the 15 km to Eliminate, the highest level of these Senior Championships.

Fighting from an early age against several complete and very aggressive teams, such as the French and Italians, the skater from Lagos sought, round by round, to avoid eliminations. Having been in the group of five skaters who launched on the last lap, he tried to win and fight for the European title, and despite all the energy spent throughout the race, he got the Bronze medal, in a very disputed sprint.

This was Diogo Marreiros' third medal in these European Championships, after becoming European vice champion of 10 km Points / Eliminate and achieving another bronze medal, but in the 1000m.

In 2018, lacobrigense had been runner-up in Europe twice, won a bronze medal and was also runner-up in the world.

In 2019, in addition to runner-up European champion and two bronze medals, Diogo was also 4th in the last World Cup, held in Barcelona, during the World Roller Games.

The European Championships taking place in Pamplona end this Sunday, with marathon events, for women and men.
