There were plenty of reasons to climb the rooftops of Faro

Listening to António Zambujo at an intimate concert, watching a show by Manel Cruz in a meeting room overlooking the Ria Formosa, seeing the Fábrica da Cerveja illuminated with LIGHT(A), listening to the fado echoing in Arco da Vila, or watch the sunset from the Cathedral of Faro. All this was possible at Açoteia – Faro Rooftop Festival, whose first edition took place between Friday, the 21st and Saturday, the 22nd of June.

Those who went up to one of the 18 roof terraces that made up the first edition of the festival, in addition to being able to enjoy the view, could watch unique moments.

The concept of the festival did not allow all those who wanted to be present at the shows by António Zambujo, Manuel Cruz, or Rita Redshoes to go up to the terraces, due to the security measures that imposed a limit for each space.

Although there was a public that was surprised by the concept of the event, the organization explained, from the first moment, that this would not be a music festival, but an opportunity to get to know the city's rooftops, many of them closed to the public, and promote moments of conviviality in these places.

In addition to the entertainment on the terraces, who stayed with their feet firmly on the ground, this weekend also had cultural activities taking place, such as the anniversary of the Ossónoba choir, in Jardim Manuel Bívar, or the arraial de São João, in the Largo Afonso III. Many of the “festivaleiros”, traveling between roof terraces, also ended up joining these events.
