Aljezur promotes healthy eating and physical activity

Câmara de Aljezur wants to get the population moving and eating healthier

The City Council of Aljezur will promote strategies to promote healthy eating and physical activity among the municipality's population.

The municipality of Aljezurense signed a protocol with the General Directorate of Health (DGS) and the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve, IP (ARS Algarve) for «operationalization of the Integrated Strategy for the Promotion of Healthy Eating, of the National Strategy for Promotion Physical Activity, Health and Welfare and the National Action Plan for Physical Activity», revealed the Chamber of Aljezur.

The objective is to promote “healthy eating habits and the practice of physical activity by the municipality's population, contributing to the improvement of their health status and to the reduction of social inequalities in the field of health”.

«Through a multi-sector intervention approach, it is intended to modify the environments, in order to be promoters of healthy eating habits, the practice of physical activity, health and well-being», describes the municipality.

At the same time, the food supply of certain foods will be “modified, in particular by reducing the supply of those with a high sugar, salt and fat content and increasing the supply of fresh water, fruit and vegetables, preferably respecting seasonal availability and proximity criteria”, as well as “improving the quality and accessibility of information available to consumers on healthy eating and physical activity, in order to inform and empower citizens and professionals to make healthy choices”.
