Lagoa: Colloquium discusses education and pedagogy

Initiative takes place on the International Day of Educating Cities

The colloquium “Learning to be in order to learn better”, which will discuss education and pedagogy, takes place on November 30, at the Centro Cultural do Convento de São José, in Lagoa. 

The initiative will take place on the date it commemorates the International Day of Educating Cities and will have as guests Sandra Barão Nobre, Dina Mendonça, Magda Gomes Dias, Lourdes Mata, Maria Helena Horta, Patrícia Constante and João Canossa Dias.

"In addition to cognitive skills, with emphasis on learning to read and write, this meeting will focus on the importance of developing emotional skills and promoting the capacity for reflection, questioning and problem solving in the education of children and young people," he says. the Chamber of Lagoa.

“How to create (emerging) literacy experiences for everyone?”, “What are the benefits of reading aloud for babies?”, “How do mothers, fathers and children interact within the concept of positive parenting?” will be another of the challenges launched.

The colloquium will open at 9:30 am, with the presence of Francisco Martins, mayor of Lagoa, and Paulo Águas, dean of the University of Algarve.

At 9:50 am, Lourdes Mata (Higher Institute of Applied Psychology – ISPA), specialized in the study of family literacy, will give an intervention on “Emotions in the classroom – knowing, recognizing and managing to Learn to Be”.

At 10:30 am, it will be possible to watch the panel: “Contribution of Emerging Literacy to the performance in reading in the 1st CEB”, presented by Patrícia Constante (psychologist at the Municipality of Matosinhos and mentor of school projects promoting mathematical skills and emerging literacy).

The morning will also be marked by the interventions of João Canossa Dias (technical director of the Association for the Recovery of Inadapted Citizens of Lousã – ARCIL) – “Books for participation, stories about inclusion!” (11:30 am) and Sandra Barão Nobre (Bibliotherapist) – “Reading is good… for XXS Babies too!” (12:00).

At 15:30 pm, Dina Mendonça (researcher in the field of Philosophy of Emotions – Institute of Philosophy – Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, Universidade Nova de Lisboa) will make an intervention on “Philosophy for Children and Youth: some fundamental aspects”, an area in which she has vast published work.

And, at 15:00 pm, Magda Gomes Dias (author of the blog “Mum's the boss” and best sellers in the field of pedagogy) will talk about “Who's Afraid of Positive Parenting? The Five Pillars” of the School of Positive Parenting and Education, which she founded.

Between 16:00 pm and 17:30 pm, in turn, three workshops will take place: Rediscovering and Rebuilding Communication (João Canossa Dias), Philosophy for children and young people: What do we do with our questions? (Dina Mendonça) and Challenges for the assessment and intervention in learning difficulties in the 1st CEB (Patrícia Constante) will fill the afternoon with dynamics.

The conclusions of the colloquium will be elaborated by Maria Helena Horta (UAlg Higher School of Education and Communication).

After a day of sharing experiences, the colloquium will be closed by councilwoman Ana Martins and by Alexandre Lima, Regional Delegate for Education.
