It is a «hymn to the rural world of Alcoutim» that promises to take thousands of people to the José Rosa Pereira Municipal Pavilion, in Martim Longo. Feira da Perdiz starts this Saturday, November 10th, and reflects the «potential in the hunting area» of this municipality.
Hunting is really one of Alcoutim's main economic activities and one of the biggest employers, even taking many visitors to the county.
“This is a strategic area in which we are betting. Therefore, we understand that the Partridge Fair is a hymn to all this hunting potential and to an entire rural world that we want to preserve and enhance. Here, for example, we have an investor who has an area of 18 hectares of land that develops, throughout the year, dozens of hunting days», said Osvaldo Gonçalves, president of the Alcoutim Chamber, to the Sul Informação.
The fair's name itself refers to the county's wealth in this area. As the Chamber of Alcoutim pointed out, the red partridge, “queen of the lesser game, is particularly common in this region. Despite having suffered a marked decline in the Iberian Peninsula, in Alcoutim it is not uncommon to be surprised by a flock of red partridges crossing the road».
The event starts tomorrow, the 10th, with a rabbit hunt, scheduled for 8:00 am. For the afternoon, the colloquium “Cinegetic repopulation – pros and cons” is scheduled (14:30), followed, at 17:00, by a flight exhibition and falconry demonstration.
On Sunday, the second and last day of the Partridge Fair, in addition to a march-race, at 10:00 am, there will be a greyhound race (10:30 am), as well as an equestrian show, at 16:00 pm. On the 11th, the 1st Trail “On the route of the partridge” will also take place.
All initiatives that, together with «the strong gastronomic component», promise to bring «5 to 6 thousand people to the Perdiz Fair», guarantees Osvaldo Gonçalves.
This is, in effect, a « event that affects the local economy ». «The restaurants, taverns and exhibitors present sell. There are even people who are anxious to reach this time», the president of the Alcoutim Chamber told Sul Informação.
In the animation part, the guests are Augusto Canário, who will give a concert on Saturday at 22 pm, and the group Brasa Doirada, with a performance scheduled for Sunday, at 00:17 pm.
Also confirmed is the presence of Miguel Freitas, Secretary of State for Forests and Rural Development, who will inaugurate the event.
