Variant from Olhão to EN125 is not forgotten, says minister

Prior study of the work must be completed "in August"

The Olhão variant will not be forgotten by the Government and the project is advancing, guaranteed, this Wednesday, 25 July, the minister of Planning and Infrastructure Pedro Marques. the member of government was in the Algarve to visit the works on the Guadiana Bridge and watch the balance of the emergency works carried out recently on the EN125 and revealed that the preliminary study of the work should be completed "in August".

«Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) is developing the projects to be able, for example, to make the Variant to Olhão. At this moment, the preliminary study that is necessary to obtain the Environmental Impact Statement (DIA) is almost completed. I think that it will be in August that it is finished”, said Pedro Marques.

“This means that we will be able to obtain the DIA for this structuring work, according to our expectations, in early 2019. At that time, we can do the execution project and then the work”. "We do not give up on the work", guaranteed the member of the Government.

This intervention, as well as the construction of the Variante à Luz de Tavira, were two of the works that They fell, when the previous Government renegotiated the Rotas do Algarve Litoral concession, which led to the return of the section of the EN125 between Olhão and Vila Real de Santo António to the State, via Infraestruturas de Portugal.

With the entry of the current PS executive, they were once again placed on the table, with Pedro Marques assuring that the work was to be done. Just over a year ago, IP announced that it had awarded the preliminary study, which is, according to the minister, almost finished.

This work was, moreover, one of the interventions defined as priorities and aimed at «increasing the fluidity and safety conditions of road and pedestrian circulation», according to IP.
