Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) awarded the contract for the preliminary study for the construction of the EN125 bypass, in Olhão, announced this Wednesday, June 7th, that public company.

This work, which is one of the interventions defined as priorities, is aimed at “increasing conditions of fluidity and safety in road and pedestrian circulation”, explains IP.

During one of the visits by Pedro Marques, Minister of Planning and Infrastructure, the governor had already guaranteed that the intervention is "even to carry out".

The aim of the work is to provide the EN125 «with a high level of quality service, consistent with a tourism region of excellence such as the Algarve today».

The route proposed as an alternative to the EN125 in Olhão was agreed between IP and the Municipality and «represents a solution that will ensure a strong improvement in mobility and cohesion of the urban fabric, aiming to overcome the environmental issues observed by the Portuguese Environment Agency in previous studies developed by the sub-concessionaire Rotas do Algarve Litoral (RAL)», says IP.

The future variant will have a length of about six kilometers, one lane per direction and will take advantage of existing municipal sections.

Along this route, seven roundabouts will be built in conjunction with the local road network to ensure “improvement of urban mobility and accessibility to the Port of Olhão, facilitating the movement of passengers and goods”, concludes Infraestruturas de Portugal.
