The municipality of Lagoa will become, as of the next school year, the only municipality in the Algarve and Alentejo equipped with a school belonging to the High Performance Support Units at School Project (UAARE).

After applying for a “pilot school” for this project in the first quarter of this year, the municipality of Lagoa received the approval and, at the end of last month, the visit of Vítor Pardal, National Coordinator of the UAARE Project.

The offer will be made in 2018-2019, through ESPAMOL – Padre António Martins de Oliveira Secondary School (Lagoa).

This teaching unit will be capable of specialized monitoring of students/athletes with, among other conditions, a tutor who will ensure the definition of individual pedagogical plans, management of overload periods, emotional support, anxiety control, analysis of formative and summative assessments , as well as monitoring and distance learning/access to the Learning + Classroom.

According to the Chamber, “it is estimated that close to 20 secondary school students/athletes from the municipality of Lagoa, practicing sports such as Canoeing, Badminton, Handball, Tennis and Sailing, may join the project.

To do so, they will have to meet one of the following conditions: be athletes with High Performance Sports status, usually represent the national teams of the respective sports or be recognized for high sports potential (to obtain the High Performance Sports Status or join national teams).

The Support Units for High Performance at School aim at an effective articulation between school groups, guardians, sports federations, their agents and municipalities, among other interested parties, with the objective of successfully reconciling school activities with the practice of sports.

The UAARE pilot project was inspired by the High Performance Support Office (GAAR) of Montemor-o-Velho, created in 2009, with positive results: national champions, international medals, students integrated in the Olympic project and a higher academic success rate. of 90%.
