The rehabilitation works of the Quays das Quatro Águas, in Tavira, will start in September, announced Docapesca. The intervention has already been awarded, but it was scheduled for after the summer, so as not to disturb the operation of the pier from where the boats depart for Ilha de Tavira.

The works include «replacement of the roof and structure, rehabilitation of the pavement, replacement of security elements and replacement/electrical and lighting installation» and are budgeted at 40 thousand euros.

Located about two kilometers from the city of Tavira, the pier that will be rehabilitated serves the beach of Ilha de Tavira and is widely used by residents and tourists during the summer.

The recovery of this infrastructure, as well as the existing pier on Ilha de Tavira itself, is an old demand. In 2016, the requalification work of Quatro Águas was completed, intervention carried out within the scope of the Polis Litoral Ria Formosa, which rehabilitated the entire area surrounding the wharf, where there are several restaurants and small docks.

At the time, the mayor of Tavira stressed that the rehabilitation of the two piers was "urgent". The announcement of the works on the Ilha docks, a heavier work, was done a little less than a year ago, by the minister of the Environment, on a visit to the Algarve.

In the case of Quatro Águas, the work to be carried out will not be the one foreseen in the plan that Polis Ria Formosa put forward, in 2012, for this area of the municipality of Tavira, where the construction of a new wharf was planned, in an investment that would amount to one million euros.
