The influence of Portuguese culture on the historical landscape of the island of Santa Catarina, in Florianópolis, southern Brazil is one of the themes of the 2nd cycle of landscape architecture conferences, to be held on November 16, from 14:30 pm to 16:30 pm, at the Teresa Júdice Gamito amphitheater of the Faculty of Science and Technology in Campus of Gambelas of the University of Algarve (UAlg), in Faro. 

This lecture will also give a “first approach to landscape archeology”, given by Cláudio Torres, from the Mértola Archaeological Field.

As for the influence of Portuguese culture on the historical landscape of that Brazilian island, the conference, by Desidério Batista, assistant professor at UAlg, «focuses on the study and recognition of the marks of Portuguese culture in the socio-spatial formation process of the Island. of Santa Catarina, and in the different expressions of the built heritage (military architecture, religious architecture, domestic architecture and production architecture)», explains the UAlg Library.

This initiative is organized by the Faculty of Science and Technology at UAlg and by the directors of the licentiate and masters courses in Landscape Architecture, with the support of the Portuguese Association of Landscape Architects, the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, Turismo de Portugal.
