The Virgo Suta group will join the Banda Filarmónica Artistas de Minerva in a concert that will take place this Saturday, June 24, at 21 pm, at Cerca do Convento, in Loulé. In this «unrepeatable and surprising musical meeting», which takes place within the scope of the Cine-Teatro Louletano musical cycle “O Longe é Aqui”, the philharmonic artistically directed by José Branco «reinvents the repertoire of the project led by Jorge Benvinda and Nuno Figueiredo» , according to the Chamber of Loulé.

The cycle “O Longe é Aqui” began in 2016, with a musical partnership between Artistas de Minerva and musician Jorge Palma, which is now repeated with the Virgin Suta, an Alentejo band that "exudes Portugal and assumes it". «But they are so contemporary that the Portuguese root is only there because they have no other remedy. We have no doubt that if they were Spaniards they would play castanets. Thus, they play adufe and cavaquinho because that is what is natural for them. Allied to this is an irony that appears at intervals, unusual, not easy to laugh, but one that is only sketched after the message has been deconstructed», according to Câmara de Loulé.

The host band of the Sociedade Filarmónica Artistas de Minerva has a very different path and is rooted in the history of Loulé. After all, in 2016 it celebrated its 140th birthday, an age of respect.

«Maintaining an uninterrupted cultural vitality to this day, the band is currently composed of 44 musicians of both sexes, with ages ranging from 10 to 74 years old. With a music school integrated in the structure, there are free classes in the subjects of Wind Instruments, Percussion, Musical Formation and Ensemble Class. The Banda Filarmónica is also a constant presence in national and Spanish festivals, also organizing masterclasses and various cultural events in which music groups from symphony orchestras and military bands to other musical projects participate”, according to the Loulé local authority.

Tickets for the show cost 10 euros for the general public and 8 euros for people over 65 and under 30. The Friend Card is applicable to this show.
