The Algarvians Liliana Veríssimo (Sporting Clube da Golegã's Center), in the 30 to 34 year-old category, and Amândio Norberto (Leões do Sul, from Castro Marim), in 70-74 years, became national champions of age groups, from triathlon, in competitions held this Saturday, June 10, in the 34th edition of Triathlon Cidade de Peniche.

In statements to the Sul Informação, Liliana Veríssimo, resident in Messines, said that it was "very good" to be crowned champion. Even because this was the first time he achieved that title.

The tests included 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of bicycle and 5 kilometers of running. Liliana Veríssimo finished the Triathlon Cidade de Peniche in 1 hour and 13 minutes.

The Algarveans achieving good results do not stop there. In terms of the 35-39 age category, Ana Águeda, from Lusitano Vila Real de Santo António/Frusoal, came in 2nd place, while Cinara Martins, from Portinado, came in third. In the same category, but in men's, Nelson Mestre, a Lusitano athlete, was in second place.

In 40-44 years, Lénia Gamito, from Louletano, reached the second position, as well as David Caldeirão, but in males. As for the 45-49 age group, Emma Yates, from the Center for Culture and Sport (CCD) of the Workers of the City Council of Lagos/Intermarché, took second place.

In 55-59, Steve Hyett, from CCD Lagos/Intermarché, reached second place, and António Raposo, from O2 – Sports and Cultural Association of Portimão, third place.

In turn, at age 60-64, Fernando Damas, from CCD Lagos, was second and José Varela, from Louletano, third. Finally, José Alberto, from Lusitano, aged 65-69, reached second place.
