The architectural projects for the new homes in the Vila Avó social complex and the building for the installation of a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Unit, which the Portimão Elderly Support Center will build in Raminha, have already been approved by the local authority.

However, the projects of the various specialties, mandatory for the beginning of the works, are being carried out by specialized technicians with the collaboration of the municipality, "in a spirit of institutional cooperation that is worth highlighting", says Figueiredo Santos, president of that social solidarity institution of support for the Elderly.

The increase in the number of homes in that complex will allow, according to the official, “to raise from 29 to 50 the number of users supported in the complex”.

Vila Avó is made up of small houses where users can enjoy the same conditions as their homes, namely in terms of privacy and enjoyment of some equipment.

The restructuring of the Vila Avó complex foresees that the houses will have single rooms with private bathroom, providing greater comfort and privacy for the elderly.

Also according to the project, medical and nursing offices will be installed for closer and more effective clinical care.

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Unit, aimed at users, associates and the general public, is, in turn, a health unit equipped with the most modern technology for physiatry and physiotherapy, integrating a hydrotherapy tank and specific treatment for various pathologies musculoskeletal disorders and also sonography equipment and electrostimulators.

According to Figueiredo Santos, "as soon as the different projects are ready and for that we have had the support of the Chamber and its president Isilda Gomes, we will start the works".

According to him, “it is a great work, with high costs in the order of tens of thousands of euros, but we will, on the one hand, try to obtain community support and, of course, we also count on the help of the populations and the usual benefactors, who never they denied us their support”.
