Viola Davis, who recently won the Oscar for best supporting actress, with the film “Vedações”, expressed her desire to visit the Algarve, at one of the parties, held on February 24th and 25th, in Los Angeles, in which the region made itself known as a tourist destination.

In addition to Viola Davis, the initiative had the participation of other celebrities, such as actors, presenters and representatives from the world of showbiz North American.

All received a voucher with the offer of accommodation in one of the Algarve's luxury hotels, members of the Associação Turismo do Algarve (ATA), which accepted this challenge: Hilton Vilamoura, Hotel Rural Quinta do Marco, in Tavira, Monte Santo Resort, in Lagoa and Hotel Bela Vista , in Portimão.

Dora Coelho, director of ATA, has already congratulated herself on the success achieved with this initiative, saying that “in addition to being an unprecedented promotion action in terms of national tourism, this was a winning bet with regard to the goals we had defined in terms of materialized return and in international visibility and projection».

The North American market is strategic for the Algarve, having been registering, according to ATA, "significant growth in terms of the number of overnight stays".

"It is through actions with impact such as this that we intend to make known to this market a broader perspective of the offer of our destination, highlighting its diversity and excellence", added Dora Coelho.

This promotion in the Algarve positioned the region «as an appealing alternative for the making of cinematographic productions: here, too, our region can score points compared to other destinations by presenting a set of assets, such as climate, light or wealth of scenery and landscapes, among other aspects», he concluded.

The action in question was carried out by the Associação Turismo do Algarve (ATA), the agency responsible for the external promotion of this region as a tourist destination, in partnership with the North American magazine Swanky Retreats, a publication dedicated to the themes of travel and lifestyle and aimed at a segment that appreciates luxury tourism.
