praia32 Praia Health Posts will operate along the Algarve coast between 29 June and 13 September, under a collaboration protocol between the Algarve Regional Health Administration (ARS) and the Portuguese Red Cross.

The objective is to ensure nursing health care and respond to clinical situations that can be treated on site, or, if necessary, refer the patient to a more appropriate health unit.

As in previous years, the Health Posts in Praia will work with opening hours between 10:30 and 19:30, between June 29 and August 30, and seven of these posts will remain in operation until September 13.

The ARS explains that accessibility, natural and environmental conditions and the analysis of risk indicators (type of care provided, number of evacuations to health facilities, treatments and sutures, stings and bites) are the criteria for choosing the location of the various Health Posts in Praia.

Since 2010, the resources allocated to the Beach Posts have been boosted through telephone communication between the nurses at the beach posts and the INEM Urgent Patients Guidance Center (CODU), allowing an adequate integration with the pre-hospital device .

Minor accidents, including trauma from falls, abrasions, bruises, spiderfish bites, heat strokes, sunburn and ailments resulting from abuse of exposure to the sun, are some of the main occurrences recorded every year at the health posts.

On the other hand, the Department of Public Health and Planning (DSPP) of the ARS Algarve is promoting, within the scope of prevention, the Contingency Plan for Adverse Extreme Temperatures – Heat Module 2015, between 15 May and 30 September, period during which extreme heat situations are more likely.

This Plan is "a strategic instrument that aims to promote the protection of the health of populations against the negative effects of periods of extreme heat, through an effective risk assessment and the development of appropriate responses by the competent health authorities in conjunction with external civil protection, social security and other entities.”

The Plan is equipped with a Forecast and Alert System that works during the period in which it is activated (15th May to 30th September) and may, however, be extended depending on the weather conditions, at any time of the year, before or after your activation period.

In 2015, the risk assessment and consequent issuance of alerts will be carried out, according to the ARS, "in an even more rigorous way, as more specific meteorological information is made available for the region by geographic area of health services , allowing for a better risk assessment'.
