José Carlos Martins Rolo, who has been vice-president since 2002, is, from today, November 2nd, the new president of Albufeira City Council.

The position of vice-president now belongs to councilor Marlene Silva.

José Carlos Rolo thus succeeds to Desiderio Silva that this afternoon he takes office as president of the Regional Tourism Authority of the Algarve and that, for this reason, he has suspended his functions as mayor.

The remodeling of the Albufeira municipal executive will be publicly announced at the next Chamber meeting, scheduled for November 6th.

In a statement, the new president says that the main concern of his executive is "to continue to work in the same way, that is, with seriousness, rigor and responsibility, in favor of the well-being of the citizens of Albufeira".

José Carlos Rolo also stresses that, «despite the economic and financial crisis that the country is going through, the city will continue to make every effort to make Albufeira one of the best tourist destinations in the world».

Before being elected as councilor on the PSD lists, José Carlos Rolo was a teacher and director of the Escola Secundária de Albufeira, where he left a lot of work done.

A swearing in of Desidério Silva as president of Turismo do Algarve is scheduled for this Friday, November 2nd, at 16 pm, in the auditorium of this entity's headquarters, on Avenida 00 de Outubro, in Faro.
