The vice-president of the Municipality of Olhão António Pina today handed Christmas baskets to the neediest families supported by this institution at the Cavalinha and 28 de Setembro community centers of the Olhão Red Cross. Over the next few days, deliveries will be repeated, totaling 750 baskets.
"We have many requests for help and we try to respond to them all, in conjunction with the council's private social solidarity institutions", said the vice-president of the Municipality of Olhão, António Pina, today, during the symbolic handing over of some of the 750 baskets in this area. Christmas season the Autarchy will offer to the most needy families in the county.
The distribution began today in the community centers of Cavalinha and 28 de Setembro, of the Cruz Vermelha de Olhão, and continues throughout the week by other institutions, through which people from Olhão with greater difficulties receive help from the City Council.
“We hope that, in this way, they can have a Christmas dinner a little more affluent,” António Pina told the dozens of residents who gather to take a bag of food products home.
As the mayor justified, "throughout the year, we were saving on other things, so we don't have to save on what is essential, that is, food for those who need it most."
