Mainland Portugal recorded 831 incidents in the last 48 hours due to bad weather, with Greater Lisbon, the Porto Metropolitan Area and Algarve being the most affected regions, a Civil Protection source told Lusa.

In a review at 23:30 pm on Friday, Pedro Araújo, from the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), explained that, since the beginning of the state of special alert due to weather conditions, which was in effect between 00:00 on Thursday on Friday and at 23:59 pm on Friday, Greater Lisbon was the most affected sub-region with 131 incidents.

The Porto Metropolitan Area, with 126 incidents and the Algarve, with 89, were also the most affected.

As for typologies, the largest number of incidents was due to tree falls, with 342, followed by falling structures (236), road cleaning (150) and flooding (85), added the same source.

Pedro Araújo highlighted that, in the last hours of the period of special alert, the number of incidents suffered a “significant decrease”, despite the wind remaining intense in some areas.

The ANEPC commander added that there is no record of homeless people, with the damage being mostly material.

In the municipality of Ílhavo, district of Aveiro, a tree fell this Friday night onto a vehicle on National Road 109, causing a minor injury, a source from the Sub-regional Command of the Aveiro Region told Lusa.

Pedro Araújo also warned that the most serious situation in mainland Portugal is now the sea unrest, due to waves with a lot of energy that mean that half of the bars are closed or restricted to navigation.

The districts of Faro, Setúbal, Lisbon and Beja were under orange alert due to maritime unrest, in force until 03am today.

The districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga go on orange alert from 15pm today, until 00am on Sunday, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
