Tradition fulfilled: hundreds of people tasted the giant king cake in Loulé

The king cake was made by Loulé Doce

Hundreds of people gathered to taste the traditional giant king cake, on the 6th of January, at Praça da República, in Loulé, celebrating Three Kings Day.

An hour before the cake began to be distributed, people were already approaching the bars to anxiously mark their place and their slice. There were photographs, videos and even video calls to show family members how gigantic the candy was.

The cutting of the cake was accompanied by the performance of Charolas das Barreiras Brancas, bringing music, smiles and animation.

Charolas are also a Three Kings Day tradition. The groups of charolas travel through the parishes of the municipality, involving the population in a centuries-old tradition, through songs where they present their wishes for the new year and criticisms of the previous year.

The king cake, which was 150 meters long, was made by Loulé Doce.

This event marked the end of the Christmas season and of Aldeia dos Sonhos, in Loulé.
