Vila do Bispo Museum – Celeiro da História has already been opened

The work represents an investment of more than 2,9 million euros

O Vila do Bispo Museum – Barn of History It was inaugurated on January 20th by the Mayor Rute Silva, and its doors are now open to welcome visitors.

Resulting from the rehabilitation and adaptation of the old cellars in Vila do Bispo, belonging to FNPT/EPAC, the work represents an investment of more than 2,9 million euros, being financed at 1 million and 981 thousand euros by the CRESC Algarve 2020 Program.

For this reason, one of the entities present at the inauguration was José Apolinário, president of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR). The president of the Municipal Assembly, the municipal councilors, presidents of the Parish Councils, regional and local entities were also present.

«Preserving the pre-existing architecture, this new museum space includes an expository-interpretive narrative about the collective heritage of the municipality, from its geological foundation, to the paleontological ichnofossils of dinosaurs, to the most remote cultural traces of human presence identified by Archaeology, passing through for History and its events and characters, for the Underwater Archeology of shipwrecks and naval battles, for the richness and uniqueness of Local Biodiversity and for the ethnographic memory of the “Cape People” and their mythical finite land of sea», explains the Chamber of Vila do Bispo.

In addition to a museum route and an educational service, the facility has an auditorium, a documentation center, a shop, a cafeteria and a terrace.

«Headquarters for research, conservation, valorization and dissemination of the very rich and diverse Local Heritage, the Vila do Bispo Museum – Barn of History It is assumed to be a participatory and inclusive project”, adds the municipality.
