Cineteatro Louletano starts 2024 with Lura, Albano Jerónimo and Teatro do Eléctrico

Cineteatro Louletano starts the year 2024 with a full program, with proposals that cover different artistic disciplines, from music to theater, from cinema to dance

Cineteatro Louletano takes to the stage, on January 12th, Friday, at 21pm, a co-production that involves Loulé, through CTL, the Centro Cultural Vila Flor, in Guimarães, the Teatro José Lúcio da Silva, in Leiria, Culturgest and the Casa das Artes of Vila Nova de Famalicão.

It is “O Meu Amigo H”, a play based on the text by Yukio Mishima, adapted by Albano Jerónimo, Cláudia Lucas Chéu and Ricardo Braun and which features Albano Jerónimo in one of the roles. “My Friend H” is an intense play about power, manipulation, brutality of human beings and corruption.

The following day, Saturday, January 13th, also at 21pm, one of the most sought-after Cape Verdean singers today takes to the stage: Lura. LURA “Theater Sessions” is a show designed for a European theater tour, which started on October 00nd in Paris, passed through the Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon and now arrives in Loulé.

This new show by Lura includes emblematic songs from his career, tributes to artists he admires and also songs from “Multicolor”, his new album, released at the end of summer 2023, through the French label Kuroneko.

On January 9th, the return of French Cinema will take place, at the Solar da Música Nova Auditorium, at 21pm. This time, with “Les Goûts et les Couleurs” (The Tastes and the Colors), by Michel Leclerc.

It is a 2022 film that tells the story of Márcia, a young singer who wants to get the rights to the music of a 70s rock icon, with whom she was recording an album. A story about good and bad taste, truth and lies, and love. Entry is, as usual in this Alliance Française Algarve initiative, free.

On January 19th, Teatro do Eléctrico takes to the stage at Cinetaatro Louletano to present “Definitely as Bahamas”, a play directed by Ricardo Neves-Neves.

“Definitely the Bahamas” is a play by English playwright Martin Crimp written in 1986, with a cast of two distinct generations: a sexagenarian couple starring Custódia Gallego and Marques d’Arede; and a student originally from Galicia, by the young Galician actress Cristina Gayoso.

A retired couple, Tita and Gui, married for decades, talk to us about their living room. The couple rents a room to a young student, whose presence challenges all the normality that is attempted to be fabricated in the description of everyday life.

Having originally been written for Radio, it contains a strong ironic and dark humor, served by a dizzying and sizzling rhythm. The play will have four sessions: the 19th and 20th at 21pm and the 00st at 21pm and 17pm.

On January 20th there is a return, that of “Menina do Mar”, by Teatro do Eléctrico. The play, which was a success when it first came to Loulé in 2019, has several sessions for schools, on the 18th and 19th of January, and two sessions for families, on the 20th, at 11am and 00pm, at Cineteatro Louletano.

This adaptation of the text by Sophia de Mello Breyner covers a maritime and fantastic universe, with a girl who lives at sea – but is very curious about life on land – and a boy who lives on land – but is very curious about life at sea.

On the 20th, there will be “Concerto Crescendo” in the Solar da Música Nova Auditorium, now in the morning, at 11:30 am. The “Crescendo” cycle takes place on the third Saturday of each month at the Loulé Music Conservatory – Francisco Rosado, in a regular and spontaneous way of showcasing the work of students and teachers. “Crescendo” are free and open to families and the general public.

Also on the 20th, the cinema arrives. The Algarve Film Week begins in Loulé, promoted by the Loulé Film Office (LFO) and which this year is part of the 10th edition of Monstrare – International Social Cinema Exhibition – an event also organized by the LFO.

Algarve Film Week has, as usual, multiple initiatives in addition to film screenings, whether short or feature films. In this week dedicated to the 7th art, there are masterclasses, workshops, meetings between film industry agents and also the usual Cinetendinha awards.

Algarve Film Week starts on the 20th, and takes place at Cineteatro Louletano between the 24th and 27th of January.

On the 28th, Cineteatro Louletano once again marks the tradition and hosts the traditional “Encontro de Janeiras e Charolas”, organized by the Grupo Amigos de Loulé Association.

This meeting values ​​the importance of Christmas carols, as well as songs linked to the New Year and Kings, in the Portuguese popular songbook, keeping the Algarve oral tradition alive.

The month ends with dancing, in a piece aimed especially at students at schools in Loulé. “50 times 25_Coefficient of Freedom” is a play directed by Solange Melo and Fernando Duarte that addresses and (re)thinks the April celebrations: “50 times celebrated. 50 times repeated. 50 times a different 25. How can you look at the same event 50 times? How do I find the difference in repetition? What is the degree of freedom in this repetition of difference?” – an interpreter embodies the search for these answers where stories and different perspectives are linked. It is on the 31st, at 10:30 am, at Cineteatro Louletano, for schools in the 1st and 2nd cycles of Basic Education.
