Fernando Pessanha spoke in Loulé about the expedition of the privateer D. Gonçalo Camelo

Recently opened headquarters of the Tomaz Cabreira Civic Association – Citizenship and Participation is in Loulé

The conference “The expedition of the privateer D. Gonçalo Camelo against the Coasts of Huelva, in 1336”, given by the historian Fernando Pessanha, took place this Saturday, December 9, at the recently opened headquarters of the Tomaz Cabreira Civic Association – Citizenship and Participation, in Loulé. 

The study by the Algarve researcher, published in Spain by the magazine Huelva em su Historia, from the University of Huelva, and in Portugal by e-Strategica – Magazine of the Iberian Association of Military History, focused on a naval expedition that took place in the context of the Portuguese war -Castilian from 1336-1339 and which was silenced by the Castilian chronicles.

The Associação Cívica Tomaz Cabreira – Cidadania e Participação, a non-profit association, has as its objective “civic intervention and cultural dissemination” and was created on January 29, 2010, by a group of people interested in issues of culture and participation of citizens in the most diverse areas of society.

According to the statutes, the association, aiming to promote democratic ideals, aspires to active participation in the “construction of a free, inclusive and supportive society”, through the promotion and defense of citizen equality and active citizenship.
