The Order of Doctors will investigate an alleged case of negligence involving the death of a young woman, stabbed by her ex-boyfriend and who was assisted at the Hospital de Portimão. The situation involved Diana Pereira, the internal physician who denounced, months ago, bad practices in the surgery service of Faro.

According to the weekly, in question is the assistance provided to a young woman, on the 15th of June, who was discharged.
The case concerns Joana Nascimento, 26 years old, who was stabbed when she left home to work. the ex-boyfriend he has since been arrested.
The crime took place “when the victim was inside his vehicle”. The suspect, "for not accepting the end of a romantic relationship, surprised her and hit her in the neck with a white weapon, causing injuries", according to the Judiciary Police.
The young woman ended up being assisted that day at the Hospital de Portimão, but was discharged.
She would be admitted, a week later, to the same hospital unit and, later, helitransported to the Hospital de Santa Maria, in Lisbon, where she died.
In Portimão's hospital records, revealed by Expresso, it is Diana Pereira who appears as the doctor who assessed «the young woman's stabbing at the request of the general practitioner, without a specialty, who received her in the emergency room and who asked the surgical team for help given the nature of the clinical case".
Speaking to this weekly, Carlos Cortes, chairman of the Order of Doctors, said that "the day or the next" after the case was revealed, the elements were sent to the Southern Regional Disciplinary Council for this body to analyze.
Diana Pereira, who was the internal physician who denounced, two months ago, bad practices in the Faro, has defended himself.
To Expresso, the doctor said that she did not observe the young woman «alone».
«I was with another intern, from another year, and with a specialist. I just wrote, I just registered in the system. The only wrong thing I did was not writing in the register that I did it with other elements», he explained.
