Cacela Velha will once again have «Noites da Moura Encantada» from tomorrow, the 14th, until Sunday, the 16th of July.
The already traditional summer festival in this village in the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, which has free admission, will once again provide visitors with “an immersion in Arab culture, with its music, dance, stories, handicrafts and much more.
The environment created by the organization aims to “transport visitors to the fascinating universe of One Thousand and One Nights, providing a unique cultural experience in a stunning setting. With the Ria Formosa as a backdrop, the event revisits the times when the Moorish population had an important role in the south of the territory, whose marks are still present today in habits, customs and landscapes», according to the VRSA Chamber.
The doors of the enclosure open at 18 pm, at which time visitors can start exploring the souk, «an artisans' market where it will be possible to discover unique and traditional products».
“Throughout the evening, there will be Arabic calligraphy demonstrations, bringing the art of writing to life in a beautiful and fascinating way. In addition, Arab percussion workshops will be held in Largo da Fortaleza, where participants will be able to learn and get involved with the vibrant rhythms of Arab music», describes the municipality.
Other attractions at the festival are the oriental dance shows, next to the cistern and in Largo da Fortaleza, and live music, with Helena Madeira performing «Melodias de Al-Andalus» in the parish church of Cacela.
The street theater «O Triangle do Al-Gharb» will be presented in the churchyard, «involving the public in a narrative that portrays the coexistence between the different cultures that coexisted in the Iberian Peninsula».
The public can also count on street entertainment, in charge of several artists and musicians.
The El Laff group will mix oriental music and dance, while Rita Sales will tell Mediterranean tales. The show Sufi Soul, with oriental music and dance, will also be presented.
To close, there will be an oriental and tribal dance show with fire manipulation, in Largo da Fortaleza.
The «Noites da Moura Encantada» is an event organized by the Municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, Ibérica – Events and Shows and ADRIP – Association for the Defense of the Heritage of Cacela. Entry is free.
