AHETA honored João Fernandes at the time of farewell

Outgoing President of the RTA had taken office on 27 July 2018

The AHETA-Association of Hotels and Tourist Enterprises of the Algarve honored João Fernandes, who today ends his mandate as president of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA).

The tribute, which took place on the 27th, was intended, according to AHETA, to «thank you for the effort put in by Eng.º João Fernandes and his team», over the last five years «in the leadership of such an important institution» .

Despite the many «adversities» that have arisen in these years, AHETA considers that «RTA, led by João Fernandes, has always been at the side of businessmen, in the search for solutions to the various problems where, just to mention the most relevant factor, the pandemic, several measures were taken to mitigate the impact of this terrible adversity».

Present at the tribute were many leaders of public and private entities, namely José Apolinário, president of CCDR Algarve, the mayors of Albufeira, Monchique and Alcoutim, many businessmen in the tourism area and family members of João Fernandes.

AHETA offered the honoree a piece of local handicraft, representing a seahorse, “a marine species characteristic of the Algarve and very endangered, and its preservation is very important”.

As his term of office ends today, July 31, AHETA wishes João Fernandes all the best, as he will start «a career in private tourism, becoming even closer to all of us».

João Fernandes had taken office as president of the RTA on July 27, 2018.

The elected president of this organization, André Gomes, takes office tomorrow, August 1st, in a ceremony symbolically scheduled for the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.
