Santos Populares will spread the festivities around Castro Marim until the 9th of July, through dances and fairs and another edition of the Mast Contest, a tradition much cherished by the people of Castro Marim.
For almost a month, «garlands of flowers, balloons and lanterns made of colored paper mingle with the smell of rosemary and basil, traditional fado, quatrains, marches and popular music. They are unavoidable landmarks of this tradition, which result from the work and dedication of the various local associations in the municipality, which, year after year, give wings to creativity and unite the community around this great festival», according to the Castro Marim Chamber.
«After a month of dances, where the jury evaluates originality, creativity, traditional aspects, the courts alluding to the Popular Saints, among other factors, the Mast Contest culminates in Arraial de S. João, in the heart of the village raiana, Castro Marim, on the night of June 23», he adds.
The XXI Mast Contest is organized by the Municipality of Castro Marim and has the collaboration of local associations and clubs: Grupo Desportivo e Cultural do Rio Seco, Clube de Junqueira, ARCDAA – Associação Recreativa, Cultural e Desportiva dos Amigos de Alta Mora , Campesino Recreativo Futebol Clube, Casa do Povo do Azinhal, Recreational and Cultural Association of Azinhal, Musical Band Castromarinense, Cultural Association “Amendoeiras em Flor”, Brotherhood of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
