Portimão once again occupies children and young people in the summer with sport and culture

Registration for the sports holidays is now open

Registration for yet another edition of the Portimão Summer Holidays, which will occupy the free time of 2500 children and young people in the municipality between the 3rd of July and the 11th of August.

Entries for the Sports Holidays part are now open, while those for the Cultural and Environmental Summer Holidays open on the 20th of June.

The municipal leisure program “Summer Holidays” is aimed at children and young people in Portimão aged between 6 and 15 years old and includes «a rich offer of sporting, recreational, cultural and civic education activities and environment», according to the City Council of Portimão.

Registration for the Sports Holidays will take place in three shifts, the first of which runs from the 3rd to the 14th of July, the second between the 17th and 28th of July and the third from the 31st of July to the 11th of August, with activities from 9:00 am to 17:00 pm, with lunch break between 12:00 and 14:30.

Applications can now be made online, on the Portimão Chamber website, which can be carried out simultaneously for all three shifts.

«To the parents of children who attend the Sports Holidays project, complete safety is guaranteed, with the monitoring of coordinators responsible for the Sports and Youth Division of the Portimão City Council, supported by 112 monitors, between 18 and 25 years old, whose responsibility is to support the participants in the activities planned and adjusted to their ages», assures the municipality.

There are several sports that will occupy children and young people and, in addition to collective sports, it is possible to try tennis, gymnastics, dance, surfing, bodyboarding, swimming, frisbee, badminton, laser run, tag rugby, golf, mountain biking. They will also have the opportunity to practice mini-golf and participate in activities such as trips to theme and water parks, and themed days with inflatables.

 

 

Registration for the Sports Holidays costs 30 euros, including personal accident insurance, city transport between activities (whenever the distance is justified) and free lunch and t-shirt, backpack and cap.

The Portimão Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters collaborates in the Sports Holidays project; Public Security Police; Portimão Cycling Centre; Portimão Tennis and Padel Club; Clube Naval D. João II – Alvor; Portimão Naval Club; Portimao Surf Club; Portimonense Sporting Clube; Portinado – Portimão Swimming Association; Portisub; GEJUPCE – Gil Eanes Youth Portimonense Club; Shipboard; Portimão Marina; and Tic Tac Bike Tour; Alvor Bowling; Alto Golf; Golfland; Lagos Zoo; and Slide & Splash.

With regard to the Cultural and Environmental Holidays, activities will take place at the Museum of Portimão, at the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library, at the Quinta Pedagógica de Portimão and at TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão, over six weekly shifts, aimed at children and young people between 6 and 12 years old.

The activities will take place from 9:00 am to 17:00 pm, with a break for lunch between 12:00 pm and 14:30 pm.

Registration for the Cultural and Environmental Summer Holidays costs 20 euros per shift/week and can be done from the 20th of June at the local authority website, where it will also be possible to consult information regarding the activity plans of each nucleus. The registration fee also includes personal accident insurance, lunch and a t-shirt, backpack and cap.

Partners in this project are the Bemposta School Groups, Eng.º Nuno Mergulhão, Manuel Teixeira Gomes, Poet António Aleixo and Júdice Fialho, as well as the parish councils of the municipality, with the main sponsors of the 2023 Summer Holidays being EMARP, the Zoomarine and the Sand City.
