More than 50 former smokers from Castro Marim mark World No Tobacco Day

The initiative was promoted under the Municipal Program to Combat Tobacco

More than 50 former smokers from Castro Marim gathered on the 30th of May, at a convivial dinner, to mark and celebrate the World No Tobacco Day, which is celebrated on the 31st of May.

The initiative was promoted within the scope of the Municipal Program to Combat Smoking, developed by the Municipality of Castro Marim since the beginning of 2015 and which has already helped around 600 people in the fight against nicotine addiction.

According to the municipality, the Municipal Program to Combat Tobacco Works on two fronts: raising awareness about quitting smoking and supporting smokers throughout the process.

The program starts by providing a smoking cessation consultation with a doctor and psychologist, where the smoker is prepared to start the process, and includes the reimbursement of medicines. This medical and psychological follow-up continues until the moment of “discharge”.

According to the Municipality of Castro Marim, the program to combat smoking currently has a very high success rate.
