Olhão meets with the school community to discuss articulation with the CPCJ

Meeting held this week

The councilor responsible for Education in Olhão met this week with the president of the Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People (CPCJ), members of the school boards and technicians from the Student and Family Support Offices (GAAFs) at education in the county to discuss the articulation between the institutions.

«The purpose of the meeting was to listen to suggestions for improvements and clarify procedures that lead to an increasingly better articulation and communication between the technicians of the schools and those of the CPCJ», says the municipality.

Councilor Elsa Parreira stressed that «we continue, and will continue, in the future, to feel the effects of the pandemic on the mental health of our students».

«Cases of depression and anxiety have increased, and it is up to schools, as a first-line entity, to identify, seek to resolve together with families and, ultimately, refer the most problematic cases to the CPCJ», he said, stressing that the The role of the GAAFs in this process «is fundamental» for the work they provide as a multidisciplinary structure of socio-educational response to the
students and families, faculty and non-teaching staff and the entire school community.

«It is a space for the expression of conflicts, affections and personal, relational, emotional and family emotions, which safeguards the
privacy and secrecy of interventions, which is why it constitutes a safe space that our students – and their families – can resort to whenever they feel the need for help», concludes the councilor with the education department.
