The Municipality of Lagoa hopes to launch, «later this year», tenders for the replacement of four of the main water pipes that serve the municipality, he revealed to the Sul Informação the president of the municipality.

Luís Encarnação said that, in total, 3,4 million euros should be spent.

For now, “and the respective procedures to be loaded on the contracting platform” have been approved, works on three pipelines: Cerca da Lapa (Lagoa) at Sesmarias, “a pipeline that gives us problems almost every day, is full of patches” , Vale de Milho/Porches and Lagoa/Estômbar/Calvário.

Afterwards, progress will be made on replacing the pipeline linking Lagoa to Poço Partido and from there to Carvoeiro.

If all goes well, the works should start in "September or October", added the mayor of Lagoa in statements to the Sul Informação.

An important caveat, because, in recent times, many public tenders have been abandoned, due to the lack of companies to compete, or many works have been delayed, due to lack of labor or construction materials.

As for the financing of these works, Luís Encarnação explains that «access to the PRR [Recovery and Resilience Plan] for these works is not yet guaranteed, but we are preparing the applications».

These works “come from the Operational Plan of GPI – Asset Management and Infrastructure, a study that we hired the specialized company and that was publicly presented in session of the Municipal Assembly”, he added.

However, the works that are now going ahead “do not yet solve the whole problem. The Operational Plan is valid for 5 years and assumes a total investment of around 18 million euros», concluded the mayor from Lagos.
