Book “Food, Nature and Landscape” presented in Tavira

On the 31st of March, at 18:30 pm, at the Municipal Library Álvaro de Campos

The book “Food, Nature and Landscape”, by Maria Manuel Valagão, Maria Elvira Ferreira and José António Passarinho, will be presented on the 31st of March, at 18 pm, at the Álvaro de Campos Municipal Library, in Tavira.

The presentation of the book, which features photography by Vasco Célio, will be in charge of João Pedro Bernardes and will take place within the scope of the Encontro com Autores program.

The book explores the role of wild food, aromatic and medicinal plants both in food identity and in the conservation of biodiversity.

«At a time when it is imperative to protect ecosystems, Food, Nature and Landscape — by three scientists with long experience in spontaneous flora conservation projects — brings answers to the growing number of people who intend to make healthy choices for their own benefit and for the benefit of nature», says the municipality of Tavira.

From landscape to gastronomy, including edible gardens, this book combines «knowledge of erudite culture and oral heritage, paying tribute to the people who have known how to preserve traditional knowledge: the conservation of species and food, culinary practices and, not less important, the simplicity and frugality to which it is imperative to return», the Municipality also mentions in a note.
