Pedro Araújo and Dinis Silva move on at the Loulé Open

Tournament lasts until March 5

Pedro Araújo and João Dinis Silva were two of the seven Portuguese tennis players who this Sunday, February 26, celebrated victories towards the second round of the qualifying of the Loulé Open.

The 13th edition of the tournament, which has a monetary prize of 25 thousand euros, is organized by the Clube de Ténis de Loulé and has the support of the Municipality of Loulé and the Portuguese Tennis Federation.

Back on a stage of good memories, where in 2021 he made his debut in the semi-finals of international tournaments, Pedro Araújo (644th in the ATP ranking and formerly 534th) overcame the Frenchman Alexandre Ruscica (34 years old and unranked ) by 7-6(4) and 7-5.

With the status of third seed in his charge, the most highly rated among the Portuguese tennis players who are present in the qualifying will discuss access to the decisive round with the German Michel Hopp (1532.º).

Like the 20-year-old from Lisbon, Tiago Pereira (18-year-old) from the Algarve also belongs to the pre-designated list (he is the 16th result of the 1430th place in the ranking) and lived up to that status with a victory by 6 -1 and 6-0 against Irishman David Gabor, of the same age and still looking for his first victory in professional tournaments. The next opponent will be the British Mason Dace.

As for João Dinis Silva, the 15-year-old youngster signed the first victory of his career in tournaments on the world circuit: invited by the organization, he responded positively to the call and surpassed the Swiss Gian Luca Tanner, seven years his senior and who even ranked ATP (1777th) in 2020, by the partial authoritarians of 6-0 and 6-2.

This Sunday's meeting was only the third in tournaments on the international circuit for João Dinis Silva, who either at the Maia Open (Challenger) in November 2022, or at the Faro Open (ITF) last week gave way to training colleague Jaime Faria.

As part of the High Performance Center team of the Portuguese Tennis Federation, the current under 16 national champion will discuss access to the third and final round of the qualifying phase with Ryotaro Matsumura, a 26-year-old Japanese who is 1043rd in the ranking worldwide.

The group of Portuguese winners in the first round was completed with the names of Gonçalo Falcão (6-2 and 6-0 against Jasper Visker), Afonso Portugal (4-6, 7-6[3] and 10-4) against Illya Maksymchuk ), Manuel Guedes de Almeida (6-3 and 6-1 against Dhruva Mulye) and Tomás Tenil, who benefited from the disqualification of the Indian Naman Sharma.

On the other hand, André Stewart, Afonso Santos, Salvador Monteiro, Rodrigo Fernandes, Duarte Correia, Manuel Guise Pinheiro, Francisco Vilaça, Bernardo Henriques, Daniel Marincas and Tomás Martins were eliminated in the opening round of this Loulé Open by Cimpor, which on Monday fair will continue with the meetings of the second round of qualifying.
