One had a magnitude of 3.3 (Richter) and was felt in Faro, the other was weaker (2.6), had its epicenter off Sagres and there is no information that it was felt on land. Two earthquakes were recorded in the early morning of this Friday, February 24th, in the Algarve.
The first shock was recorded at 8:48 am. According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the earthquake, with a magnitude of 2,6, had its epicenter at sea, around 25 kilometers southwest of Cabo de S. Vicente.
According to the IPMA, "no information was received confirming that this earthquake was felt".
A different situation occurred at 9:15 am.
An earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale was "felt with maximum intensity II/III (modified Mercalli scale) in the region of Faro».
The epicenter was also located at sea, about 45 kilometers south-southwest of Faro.
Despite being felt, the shock “did not cause personal or material damage”.
