Vila do Bispo honors firefighters, members of Civil Protection and Fishermen

As part of the commemorations of the Day of the Municipality and of São Vicente

This Saturday, January 21, the Vila do Bispo Council promoted a tribute ceremony to members of the Municipal Civil Protection Subcommittee of Vila do Bispo, to the Wide Angle team of the Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Vila do Bispo, to municipal employees and fishermen Luís Miguel Silva Estácio, Paulo Jorge Fernandes Alemão and Luís Miguel dos Santos Batista.

The initiative took place on the eighth day of the Municipality and São Vicente Day celebrations.

The members of the Vila do Bispo Municipal Civil Protection Subcommittee were distinguished for their response to the new challenges posed by the pandemic, "where they committed themselves to minimizing the impact of this public health crisis, establishing a set of intervention measures at municipal level within the scope of states of emergency and subsequently declared states of calamity".

This subcommittee integrates in the Municipality of Vila do Bispo, Municipal Services of Civil Protection, GNR – Territorial Post of Vila do Bispo, Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Vila do Bispo, Captaincy of the Port of Lagos, Public Health Authority of the Municipality, Center of Health of Vila do Bispo, Social Security Institute, Parish Council of Vila do Bispo and Raposeira, Parish Council of Budens, Parish Council of Barão São Miguel.

The Wide Angle team of the Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters was honored «for the courage, determination and high readiness of the wide angle team of the Vila do Bispo Firefighters in the various requests for help in adverse conditions inherent to wide angle rescue actions, to which these professionals always put themselves on behalf of human life, goods and animals, risking their own lives».

From the municipality, six workers who retired in 2022 were also distinguished: Alzira Eduarda Afonso Dâmaso Bravo, Fernando Guerreiro da Silva, Homero João Maia Cardoso, José Duarte Soares Frutuoso, Manuel António da Silva Santos and Maria José Encarnação.

Fishermen Luís Miguel Silva Estácio, Paulo Jorge Fernandes Alemão and Luís Miguel dos Santos Batista were also honored for their «exemplary attitude and spirit of mutual help» for having rescued two fishermen from Salema, after the vessel had capsized and sunk.
