São Brás de Alportel Health Center will now be maintained and managed by the Chamber

Within the scope of the decentralization of competences

The Chamber of São Brás de Alportel will assume new competences in the area of health at the beginning of February, including responsibilities for the maintenance and management of the infrastructures of the local Health Centre, under an agreement signed yesterday, the 19th, at the Ministry of Health in Lisbon.

The municipality assumes these new responsibilities on the 1st of February, following the decentralization process that is underway and “after negotiations between the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities and the Government”. At stake are powers that until now belonged to the Regional Health Administration (ARS) of the Algarve.

The municipality of São Brás de Alportel «will be officially responsible for the management, maintenance and conservation of the buildings and their outdoor spaces, as well as for six operational assistant employees».

The Chamber will also proceed with the requalification of the Health Centre, through an application for the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), of around 300 thousand euros, «without ever losing sight of another ambition, that of building a renewed Unit of Family Health» in São Brás de Alportel.

With the new powers, «the municipality reinforces its strategic partnership with the National Health Service in disease prevention programmes, elaboration of the Municipal Health Strategy and even the creation of the Municipal Health Council».

«We believe that with this deepening of the responsibilities of the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel we will help to improve conditions for users and professionals, in a strategy of providing health services with greater proximity and efficiency», believes Vítor Guerreiro, mayor.

The formal act of signing the Auto de Transfer, which took place at the Ministry of Health, was formalized between Manuel Pizarro, Minister of Health, Vitor Guerreiro and Paulo Morgado, President of the Board of Directors of ARS Algarve.
