AMAL becomes president of the Algarve Regional Energy and Environment Agency

The Board of Directors will also have the University of Algarve and the City Council of Portimão as directors.

The Board of Directors of the Algarve Regional Energy and Environment Agency (AREAL) will be chaired, until 2024, by AMAL – Comunidade Intermunicipal do Algarve, represented by Vítor Guerreiro, mayor of São Brás de Alportel. 

This was the decision taken at AREAL's General Assembly held last Friday, December 2nd, at its headquarters in Vilamoura, during which the new governing bodies for the 2022-2024 period were elected and took office.

The Board of Directors will also have the University of Algarve and the Portimão City Council as directors.

The Supervisory Board will be chaired by the Algarve Tourism Board (RTA) and will have as members the companies Vilamoura World (secretary) and E-Rede Distribuição Energia, SA (member), with the Commission for Coordination and Regional Development of the Algarve remaining in the Presidency of General meeting.

As chairman of the General Assembly, José Apolinário, president of CCDR/Algarve, highlighted the importance of AREAL in the Region and expressed a vote of thanks to the outgoing Board of Directors, in particular Professor António Mortal, from the University of Algarve, for his work and commitment developed.

In the brief presentation of the most relevant aspects that occurred in the last three years at AREAL, «which resulted in a favorable performance in terms of the results achieved», the outgoing director underlined the contributions made by the Agency to promote regional energy innovation, developing projects aimed at resource increasing access to renewable energy sources, increasing energy efficiency and certification through the introduction of the latest technologies.
