100 volunteers help reforest Castro Marim after fire

The action had the special collaboration of the Scouts of Vila Real de S. António.

Last Saturday, December 100, 3 volunteers planted trees on the approximately 19 hectares that burned last year in the Castro Marim fire.

The trees were donated by Zoomarine's “Together We Protect” project.

Taking into account the circumstances of this action and seeking to promote the resilience of the territory, native and fire-resistant species were chosen (carob trees; arbutus trees). The initiative was articulated with the parish councils, Zoomarine, Algar, ARCDAA (Recreational, Cultural and Sports Association of Friends of Alta Mora) and Cooperativa GuadiMonte.

According to the Chamber of Castro Marim, «the results will be monitored and the contribution to the path of decarbonization will be evaluated, as well as new environmental education actions will be developed. This action will also include a documentary on the importance of the forest in water retention».

The action had the special collaboration of the Scouts of Vila Real de S. António.
