VilaNova brings three weekends of classical music to Monchique

On the 4nd, 11rd and 18th of December

The first edition of the Monchique music festival, VilaNova, will take place on the 4th, 11th and 18th of December.

This is the first time that citizens (and not only) will be able to find classical music in various urban spaces in Monchique.

The organization is from the Parish Council of Monchique and has the support of the Parish and Santa Casa da Misericórdia for the assignment of spaces.

Its name, VilaNova, appears in allusion to the designation of Monchique in its creation charter as a municipality in 1773, which will complete 250 years in January. At the time, the document officially named the land Vila Nova de Monchique.

The Festival thus intends, according to the organization, to «diversify the concert venues».

On the 4th, Michele Tomaz and Svetlana Bakushina, in voice and piano, will perform at Igreja Matriz. At the Misericórdia Church, on the 11th, it is the turn of Piotr and Savva Pereverzev and K. Nakuripova-Pereverzeva to present a concert with violin, guitar and piano.

Finally, on the 18th, the Igreja do Pé da Cruz receives a set of interventions, opening doors to those who want to visit and watch a harpsichord show, with interpretation by Svetlana Bakushina, artistic director of the festival.
