Lagoa hosts another edition of the Algarve Box Cup

On the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of December

Lagoa hosts the 4th edition of the Algarve Box Cup, an international event for elite female and male boxers, between the 2nd and 4th of December, at the city's Municipal Pavilion.

The event has more than 100 participants, from 12 countries, some representing national teams such as Norway, Denmark and an athlete from the refugee Olympic team.

The event is part of the Algarve Boxing Association's competitive calendar as the maximum event held in the region and classified as unique at national level, as it is exclusive to elite Olympic Boxing athletes, with a total prize money of 12 thousand euros for the winners of each weight category.

«The Algarve Box Cup was a difficult bet, but, in this edition, we are already reaping the benefits of the previous good organisations, which were reflected in the registration of new countries such as Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, as well as the early closure of certain weight categories, for having reached the maximum number of boxers, before the deadline", said Sandra Silva, president of the Algarve Boxing Association.

It is «a test of excellence, stage for the best boxing athletes», he added.

According to the Municipality of Lagoa, the event is part of the third axis of the municipal sports development strategy, «Lagoa Acolhe Grandes Eventos», which aims to stimulate the local economy, throughout the year, through sporting events, and which promotes also the practice of sports and healthy lifestyles.

«Lagoa is once again the stage for another great event, this time through the boxing modality, one of the most recent modalities practiced in the county», says Luís Encarnação, Mayor of Lagoa.

The event is organized by the Algarve Boxing Association, in partnership with Sporting Clube Lagoense and with the support of the Municipality of Lagoa.
