Maritime Police seize 500 kilos of octopus in Santa Luzia

Some of the octopus will be handed over to a social solidarity institution, as it is too small to be sold

The Maritime Police seized today, the 28th, 500 kilos of octopus in Santa Luzia, in Tavira, for escaping from the auction and for size below the allowed by law.

Elements of this security force carried out an inspection action at the fishing port of Santa Luzia and realized that the fish caught by three vessels “was being packed inside three vehicles”, which later left the site.

“The three vehicles were intercepted by elements of the Maritime Police, who proceeded to prepare the respective news reports for escaping the auction and capturing an undersized octopus”, according to the National Maritime Authority.

"As a precautionary measure, all the octopus captured was seized, and the legal weight octopus was sold at auction, with the value reverting to the process, and the undersized octopus will be delivered to a social solidarity institution", he added.

Five elements of the local Command of the Maritime Police of Tavira participated in this action, supported by two vehicles.
