The book “Os balloons that taught me to fly”, by Nuno Garcia Lopes, will be presented on the 2nd of November, at the António Ramos Rosa Municipal Library, in Faro.

There will be two sessions for schools during the day and one for families at 18pm.

Created with children in mind, the book starts from a true story to talk about death and how to deal with the absence of someone with whom we lived daily.

The story is Lena's, as the many dozens of children knew her who, over a decade, helped to grow in the ATL of the Associação de Pais e Amigos das Escolas de Linhaceira, in Tomar. Animator of that space, having been one of the main responsible for its installation, she was a victim of Evans syndrome, a rare autoimmune disease, only diagnosed very late.

Nuno Garcia Lopes and Helena Marques got married in 1999, on the same day that they published a book together, “The sleepy habit of houses”, with his poems and her photographs. The purpose of paying tribute to her, on the day she would complete 50 years of age, led him to create a work with the collaboration of illustrator Sara Brito and designer Sylvie Lopes.

The book, whose 1st edition is sold out, is a joint publication by the Associação de Ideias para a Cultura e Cidadania and the Associação de Pais e Amigos das Escolas de Linhaceira.

Nuno Garcia Lopes recently won the Hugo Santos Literary Prize.
