"Let's ask questions about Montessori in the elderly" in Quarteira

Information session is scheduled for this Friday.

“Let's ask questions about Montessori in the elderly” is the theme of the clarification session given by trainers Catarina Jerónimo and Maria Sousa this Friday, September 30, at 21:30 pm, at the Municipal Library in Quarteira.

Maria Montessori idealized Scientific Pedagogy, currently known as Montessori Pedagogy, which is based on the study of brain functioning and the understanding of how we acquire skills in a more “natural” way.

This pedagogy has obtained several positive results and this has made its application to the elderly begin to be studied in 2014. Currently, it is applied to the elderly in general and in dementia situations in particular.

“The Montessori approach at this stage of life focuses on rediscovering and supporting the person behind the passing of age and beyond the physical and motor difficulties they may be facing. Activities with meaning and purpose are put back into people's lives, based on their needs, interests, skills and abilities», explains Loulé City Council in a note.

In addition, the method supports the improvement of the quality of life of older people, promoting the principles of dignity, meaningful commitment and independence throughout life.

In this lecture, the trainers will show more concretely how the Montessori approach is applied in the elderly, on which pillars it is based and clear all doubts on the subject.

Founders of Jardim da Descoberta, Catarina Jerónimo and Maria Sousa are two mothers passionate about the Education for Peace approach proposed by Montessori, and the personal work that its application implies. Trainers and students, they are organizers of national and international Montessori events and consultants in the Montessori area.

The initiative is free entry.
