Panels of S. Vicente are the subject of a conference and workshop in Lagos

On the 30th of September and the 6th of October

The S. Vicente Panels will be highlighted in two activities that the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve (DRCAlg) will promote in Lagos, on the 30th of September and 6th of October, with the aim of «approaching society at the time of Portuguese maritime expansion».

On Friday, September 30th, Carla Alferes Pinto invites you on a trip to “Revisit the Panels of S. Vicente: A look at clothing in the time of the Discoveries”, in Lagos, in the auditorium of the Paços do Concelho of the 17th century. XXI, between 30:19 and 30:XNUMX.

«This paradigmatic work of painting and the social representation of Portugal at the end of the XNUMXth century offers the possibility to observe an extraordinary clothing gallery, with its shapes, colors, materials and adornments, which opens the door to explore the secrets of the wardrobe feminine and masculine of the nobles of the time», fits the DRCAlg.

“What were your clothes like? What fabrics did you use? Is it possible to perceive the predominant colors? And what about jewelry and other adornments? These will be some of the main questions that will open some doors to a better understanding of the society of the time”, he adds.

More than the interest of the theme itself, «capable of holding the attention of students or researchers in the area of history and culture», the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve intends, by promoting this activity of historical dissemination, within the scope of the Magallanes_ICC project, to «attract a wider sector of the cultural and creative industries, made up of artists from different areas».

«This transfer of scientific knowledge to the cultural and creative sector seeks to boost the creation of an innovative cultural offer, linked to the theme of “Algarve participation in the maritime expansion enterprise of the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries”, in the territory of the Places of Globalization (municipalities of Lagos, Monchique, Vila do Bispo, Aljezur and Silves), valuing the resources of its cultural heritage», explains the same entity.

On the 6th of October, «having as a motto the historical knowledge shared at the conference on the 30th, and its relationship with the territory, the designer Alexandra Santos will have the opportunity to point out some ways to use history as an active element in this creative process, in yet another territorial design workshop where the process of building a cultural and creative product linked to the identity of the territory and susceptible of being financially exploited is carried out».

The sessions also have the logistical support of the Lagos City Council.

Participation in the conference is free, but prior registration is advised. In the case of the creative workshop, registration is mandatory. Interested parties can contact the organization through the address [email protected] or telephone 964 782 462.

Magallanes_ICC is a cross-border cooperation project, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the Interreg VA España-Portugal Program (POCTEP) 2014-2020.
