Eight students of the degree in Archeology from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of Universidade Nova de Lisboa are, during the month of August, joining the archeology team of the Câmara de Silves.

According to the municipality, “for two weeks, the students are part of the team that has ongoing monitoring and archaeological excavation work in Bairro do Progresso, in Silves, as part of the Landscaping Requalification Contract” for this neighbourhood.

«Archaeological works have uncovered material traces of the occupation of that area during the end of the city's Muslim rule, which are found under the foundations and floors of the cork factory that existed there before the construction of the neighborhood», he adds.

Students will have the opportunity to develop the practical component that integrates the curricular contents of the degree in archeology, «preparing them for the complexity of excavation methodologies in urban contexts».
