ISMAT prepares the opening of a new degree with the collection of used garments and fabrics

Main objective is to «turn the old into new Fashion Design products»

The Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes (ISMAT), in Portimão, is collecting used garments and fabrics to develop an academic project within the scope of the recently created Degree in Design and Production of Fashion and Textiles.

The objective is, in a first phase, to «allow students to come into contact with different textile materials», in order to learn to «identify their typologies».
In a subsequent phase, and this being the main objective, the idea is to «transform the old into new Fashion Design products».

“This is a project to upcycling which aims to raise awareness and make the new generation of professionals responsible for the issue of sustainability and circularity, a topic that has already been explored in the other degrees and masters offered by ISMAT», explains Instituto Superior.

The collection of materials takes place until the end of August, in specific containers, at ISMAT's facilities, in Portimão (www.ismat.pt)
