Gambelas fire breaks out a few meters from the University of Algarve fence

Flames reignited in mid-morning, in the vicinity of the Gambelas Campus

the fire that broke out yesterday in Gambelas, in Faro, has been consuming an area of ​​bush and pine forest a few meters from the perimeter of the University of Algarve campus since around 11 am, close to a place where the flames had already been, but where the situation came to be considered under control.

On the ground, according to the Sul Informação, who was in the place where the flames were more intense, there were cars and operational of at least two corporations - Volunteer Firefighters "Cruz Lusa" of Faro and Municipalities of Olhão -, to attack the fire.

Inside the university, the fire hydrants spread across the campus have already been prepared and hoses can be seen ready to be used in case the flames approach.

These fire hydrants are, moreover, being used to refuel at least one fire engine.

So far, the fire is moving in a North-Northwest direction, which means that it is moving away from the Gambelas Campus.

 

 

This does not prevent there from being a sense of concern among the academic community and those who work on campus.

In addition to this front next to the University of Algarve, this fire, which at mid-morning had a perimeter of 8 kilometers and which came to be fought by four aerial means, is threatening homes in Quinta do Lago, in Almancil, in the municipality of Loulé.

At the moment, 300 men are on the ground, supported by 110 vehicles and an air force.
