«The closure of the Pediatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics emergencies in the Hospitals of Portimão and Faro cannot continue", defends the CDU.

This was a situation discussed at the meeting of the Municipality of Lagos on 6 July, in which Alexandre Nunes, councilor of the CDU, defended that the events of the last months show «not only the absence of measures that guarantee the attraction and fixation of doctors and other health professionals in the National Health Service, but also a policy that, indirectly, contributed to fuel the business of private economic groups that profit from the lack of response from the SNS».

«Contrary to what the Ministry of Health says, the appeal in emergency pediatric situations only at Portimão Hospital, or gynecology and obstetrics emergencies only in Faro it's not a solution. the cities of Faro and Portimão are 70 km from each other, Vila Real de Santo António is 115 km from Portimão and Aljezur is 110 km from Faro. Parents and children in the Algarve need to be sure that, in any event, the doors of pediatric emergency, gynecology and obstetrics are not closed – either at the Hospital de Portimão or at the Hospital de Faro – neither the health nor the lives of women and children can be jeopardized», reiterates the CDU, recalling that both units have a lack of health professionals.

In this way, the Municipality of Lagos, meeting on 6 July, unanimously approved the following points presented by councilor Alexandre Nunes: "to demand the Government to take the urgent measures that are necessary, with a view to guaranteeing and guaranteeing the attraction and fixing doctors, nurses and other health professionals, investing in their careers, working conditions, salaries and combating the flight of professionals to the private sector, urgent measures that are not implemented only because the Government has refused to do so»; and «to inform the President of the Republic, the Government, the Parliamentary Groups of the Assembly of the Republic and the media», reads a press release.
