Sports holidays return to Portimão

The program will include various activities from sports to cultural

The Sports Holidays are back in Portimão to, from the 4th of July to the 12th of August, occupy the free time of children and young people from 6 to 15 years old during the summer school break.

The Sports Holidays will be rich in sporting, recreational, cultural, civic and environmental education activities, complementing with activities at the Museum, the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library, the Pedagogical Farm and the Municipal Theater (TEMPO).

Registration opens on June 13th and must be done online, having the possibility of enrolling in different centers and shifts.

The values ​​vary according to the centers that the participants intend to attend, being 25 euros the value for the nucleus of the Sports Area and 45 euros for the remaining nuclei. The registration fee includes personal accident insurance and lunch, and the offer of a kit consisting of T shirts, backpack and cap.

The activities of the three fortnightly shifts related to the 30th edition of the Sports Holidays, which return to their original format, take place in the following areas: Portimão Sports Pavilion, Boavista Sports Pavilion, Alvor Sports Complex, Mexilhoeira Grande Sports Complex and Praia Sports Area da Rocha.

With regard to shifts, the first takes place from the 4th to the 15th of July, the second from the 18th to the 29th of July and the last from the 1st to the 12th of August, with activities from 9:00 to 17:30, and a lunch break between 12:00 and 14:00. to 9:00 pm, except in the core of the Praia da Rocha Sports Area, since the activities take place from 13:00 am to XNUMX:XNUMX pm.

In addition to sports, participants will be able to try out tennis, futsal, handball, gymnastics, dance, surfing, canoeing, windsurfing, body-boarding, swimming, among others. They will also have the opportunity to practice mini-golf and participate in activities such as visiting an aquatic amusement park, among others.

The following entities collaborate in the initiative: Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Portimão, Public Security Police, Portimão Cycling Center, Portimão Tennis and Padel Club, D. João II Naval Club – Alvor, Portimão Naval Club, Shotokan School Portimão Karate, Portimão Petanque Group, Portimão Surf Club; Portimonense Sporting Clube, Portinado – Portimão Swimming Association, Portisub, GEJUPCE – Gil Eanes Juventude Portimonense Clube, Navibordo, Marina de Portimão, and Tic Tac Bike Tour.

The project has as partners the Bemposta School Groups, Eng.º Nuno Mergulhão, Manuel Teixeira Gomes, Poeta António Aleixo and Júdice Fialho, as well as the Parish Councils of the municipality. The main sponsors of the Sports Vacations are Portimão Retail Center, EMARP, Slide & Splash, Golfland and Socialgar Seguros.

At the core of TEMPO, the activities are in charge of TIPO – Teatro Infantil de Portimão and will focus on the theme “Dramatic expression in children's education”, providing children with a contact with the dramatic art, through fun and creative formulas, taking advantage of each one's natural faculties.

At the center of the Pedagogical Farm, the program offers a set of initiatives that will favor thematic workshops and activities in nature, always in contact with the animals of that rural space in the heart of the city, where it will also be possible to practice various traditional crafts, simultaneously with the food and environmental education.

At the core of the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Library, six stories are proposed, one per week, from which different workshops and activities are developed in reading, theater, dance, painting, puppets, recycling, molding, dubbing and games, among other proposals.

The activities in these three centres, which have a weekly duration, take place between 8:30 am and 13:30 pm and are aimed at participants from 6 to 12 years old, with a cost of 15 euros per participant.

At the Portimão Museum's core, the Educational Workshop, which is also aimed at children aged 6 to 12, runs from 9 am to 00:17 pm, with a cost of 30 euros per week, and offers participants six weeks of fun under the motto "Give water through the beard".

This year's project consists of a set of activities that will make known the importance of water in the territory, traditions, cultural and natural heritage, not only today, but throughout history as an essential element to life and common to many activities that since time immemorial have marked the daily life of the community.

All participants in the Summer Vacation project will be monitored by responsible coordinators from the Portimão City Council, supported by 90 monitors between the ages of 17 and 25, whose responsibility is to support the small participants in the planned activities, all of them adjusted to their ages.
