Castro Marim launches 2nd edition of the «Youth for the Environment» Program

Aimed at young people between 16 and 23 years old

The Municipality of Castro Marim launches the 2nd edition of the program “Youth for the Environment”.

The initiative, launched in 2021, was born from a group of young people, who assumed themselves as the precursor of this environmental project, and the Municipality of Castro Marim «promptly embraced the cause, where it saw the first step towards a new culture of care for the environment and public space and a different way of raising community awareness», emphasizes the municipality.

The project is aimed at young people between the ages of 16 and 23, residents, students in the municipality or who have actively participated in volunteer activities in the Municipality of Castro Marim. This year, the “Youth for the Environment” program will also include the organization of promotion and awareness-raising actions at events and beaches in the county.

«A group of young people with carts, brooms and gloves, cleaning the surroundings, edges and public spaces, was the image that remained of the project and that also reflects the desire to alert, value and dignify the work of the cleaning corners, who , every day, in the same places, they strive to keep public spaces clean and which, not infrequently, are not recognised», explains the Municipality of Castro Marim.

In addition, these young people are also responsible for organizing awareness-raising actions on recycling, conducting surveys and actions related to bio-waste and collaborating in the geolocation of containers in the municipality, among other missions within the scope of environmental awareness.

In a first phase, 20 vacancies are opened, with young people working at the Youth and Environment Service, in Castro Marim, until the end of August.

Young people will be permanently monitored, entitled to a weekly scholarship. The initiative includes personal accident insurance and a participation certificate.

Applications are now open and can be delivered in person, at the citizen support office, or via email [email protected].
